Our Mission

To improve the methods and standards of the animal control profession on a statewide basis, to inform the public of the true nature and importance of the work performed by animal control organizations, to cooperate with other public agencies dealing in animal control, and to promote justice and equity in the enforcement of animal control laws.

Who or what is ACCAT?

The Animal Care & Control Association of Tennessee (ACCAT) was originally organized in 1989. The purpose of this association is to improve the methods and standards of the animal control profession on a statewide basis, to inform the public of the true nature and importance of the work performed by animal welfare organizations, to cooperate with other public agencies dealing in animal welfare, and to promote justice and equity in the enforcement of animal laws.

ACCAT is composed of individual, organizational, and corporate members. Membership fees, voting privileged and other requirements of membership are delineated in the Constitution and By-Laws of ACCAT. Power to conduct the business of ACCAT is vested in the Board of Directors.

ACCAT is open to any adult or organization actively working in or affiliated with animal control or animal welfare, without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national origin.

The purpose of ACCAT is not to tell its members how to operate their local agencies or associations. Rather, to work with all agencies and associations for the betterment of the animal welfare profession.
